Sunamp Thermino range explained: which model is right for you?

Sunamp Thermino range explained: which model is right for you?

If you’re looking at a Sunamp, there are a couple of decisions you need to make.

First is: which size do I need? The Sunamp’s size determines how much hot water you get. Secondly, which model do I need? This determines how the unit is powered.

Sunamp sizes explained: 70, 150, 210 or 300

All Sunamp sizes are based on a ‘litre equivalent’, so they roughly match what a traditional hot water cylinder would provide.

Thermino 70

The 70 is the smallest unit available, and is designed for low usage. It’s typically suited to a one bedroom flat or property with one or two occupants. It can provide enough hot water for normal daily use, but is not designed for heavy back-to-back demand.

The 70 is only available in ePlus models.

Thermino 150

The 150 is the most common size, and can work for the majority of homes.

It’s usually right for one to two bedroom properties, or small families. It provides a good balance between capacity and footprint, and is enough for regular showers, washing up, and general use without feeling limited.

Thermino 210

The 210 steps up in capacity, and is designed for higher demand.

This is more suited to three bedroom homes, or families where hot water is used more frequently, especially at similar times of day.

Thermino 300

The 300 is the largest unit, and is designed for high demand properties.

This is typically installed in four bedroom homes, or properties with multiple bathrooms. It is built for households where hot water use is consistent and heavy, such as multiple baths or showers close together.

Sunamp models explained: ePlus, xPlus or TS

Once you know the size, the next step is choosing the type of Thermino, which depends entirely on how your home is powered.

Thermino ePlus explained

The Sunamp Thermino ePlus is designed to replace a direct hot water cylinder. It is powered by electricity, just like an immersion tank. It’s the simplest option, and perfect for homes using off-peak tariffs.

The ePlus works primarily using grid electricity. If you choose to add a PV02 PV key, it can also work with solar PV, using excess generation to heat your water.

Thermino xPlus explained

The Sunamp Thermino xPlus is designed to replace an indirect hot water cylinder.

It can work with systems that generate hot water elsewhere, such as boilers, air source heat pumps, and ground source heat pumps.

For the unit to work with a heat pump, you need to add the relevant HP key. If you also want to integrate with solar, you need a HPPV key.

Thermino TS explained

The Sunamp Thermino TS is also an indirect model , but a more straightforward version. It’s designed to work with boilers and heat pumps.

It does not have the same flexibility or optimisation features as the other models, particularly when it comes to integrating with solar.

The simple way to choose the right Sunamp

Choosing the right unit becomes much easier when you break it down.

First, choose your model type based on how you want to run the system. Then, choose the size based on your household’s needs.

Which Sunamp model is right for you?

Many people overcomplicate Sunamp, as they focus on technical specifications rather than how their household actually uses hot water.

If you match the model to your system and the size to your lifestyle, the decision becomes more straightforward and you end up with a system that just works without you thinking about it.

If you’re unsure, it’s always better to slightly oversize than undersize. This gives you more flexibility and avoids the system needing to recharge using busy periods.
